Description

1942-1946 on CD

This CD continues with the long 1942 recording session that would be Lil Green's last with Big Bill Broonzy, and includes several classics written by Joe McCoy, as well as Broonzy's influential "Keep Your Hand On Your Heart." The wartime AFM strike disrupted her recording career until 1945 after which she returned to the studio with Simeon Henry still at the piano. Sam Casimir had replaced Broonzy on guitar, and Robert Montgomery from Buster Bennett's band was now playing bass, and her repertoire was changing - although she still her own cute little blues, like "Boy Friend" and "Now What Do You Think", she was also under pressure to cut swing era ballads and novelties such as Seger Ellis' "No Baby, Nobody But You" and Louis Armstrong's "Mr Jackson From Jacksonville".
