China: Meditation Of The Orient on CD

In early 2002, Inside Sounds was hired to produce some music for the China Pavilion in the Memphis Zoo. Grayson Wells, producer of the 2001 release Eternal Egypt, was once again recruited to lend his talents to the task of creating music that would be compelling to the general public while incorporating traditional Asian themes and instrumentation. Wells, a former Memphian who recently opened a recording studio in Orlando, Fl, began his professional career as a keyboardist at the age of fourteen. Although his background is in classical music, he has written and produced jingles for both City Gear and Marty's, created rap tracks for dozens of artists and co-wrote and produced 'Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled,' which premiered before a national audience on HSN in 1998. On China-Meditations of the Orient, Wells collaborates with Ross Taylor. These two musicians perform together for Disney and produce tracks for other artists in the Orlando area. Wells and Taylor have created some compelling music that flows like a movie soundtrack by combining Eastern and Western musical influences using samples of traditional Chinese instruments. Much of the music is peaceful and atmospheric, intended to give the listener a sense of being in a garden or, at times, in the middle of an exotic forest. A couple of the pieces integrate Asian rhythms and distinctive percussion that take the listener into a market in the middle of Shanghai. This recording is primarily instrumental; however, on occasion Wells and Taylor utilize ethnic chanting/vocalizing for dramatic effect. Inside Sounds has produced six CDs for WONDERS: The Memphis International Cultural Series and has worked with several museums throughout the country in providing music for a variety of cultural exhibitions. In addition, Inside Sounds and it's historic label Memphis Archives have remained a constant presence in the Memphis music community, having now released 58 CDs since 1993.
