I Love You So Much It Hurts: His Rec 1936-62 & 81 on CD

I am maybe the world's biggest Floyd Tillman fan. ' - Willie Nelson.

Floyd Tillman was one of country music's great stylists and alltime greatest songwriters. His music embraced WesternSwing, Honky Tonk, and Jazz, and several of his songs became Pop classics. Although born in Oklahoma, he was aTexas music pioneer, embodying all that was different and truly great about the music of the Lone Star state. Floyd Tillman was apioneering electric guitarist?among the first to bring the instrument to country music, and perhaps the mostidiosyncratic vocalist ever to sing a country song. His influence on other stylists, such as Willie Nelson, is inestimable. 'You could tell, right away, that his music wasn't the typical country music of the time, ' Willie Nelson said. 'He had some ofthose Django Reinhardt rhythms in his guitar playing, and he was singing about subjects that just weren't being sungabout at the time. 'Floyd Tillman wrote several country music standards, including It Makes No Difference Now, They Took The Stars OutOf Heaven, Each Night At Nine, Slippin' Around, I'll Keep On Loving You, and I Love You So Much It Hurts.

Altogether, his songs have appeared on 50 million records, and have been recorded by artists as diverse as Gene Autry, Tex Ritter, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, the Supremes, and Ray Charles. His music is also studded with wryly observed non-hits andminor classics like This Cold War With You, Driving Nails In My Coffin and I Gotta Have My Baby Back, all of themtransformed into standards. This boxed set starts with Floyd Tillman's debut recordings as a guitarist and occasional singer for the Blue Ridge Playboys in 1936, and includes all the recordings from his five year stint with Decca (1939-1944) and nine classic years with Columbia (1946-1955)...
