Since 1997, he has journeyed to China each year to train with the senior monks of the famous Shaolin Temple. This 10th-degree black belt in Shaolin kempo also serves as the United States' cultural ambassador for Shaolin martial arts in China, an honor bestowed on him by Shi Young-xin, abbot of the Shaolin Temple. DeMasco has also been honored domestically with the National Education hero's Award by President Bill Clinton and the former U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley, as well as the Director's Award from former U.S. FBI Director Louis Freeh.
